STEP 1 – Install Zoom App
Skip if you already have Zoom installed.
You can use Zoom on any computer or mobile device.
You do not need a Zoom account to join a meeting.
- Install the Program/App
- PC Computer:
- Go to https://zoom.us/download.
- Under “Zoom Desktop Client”, click the blue DOWNLOAD button.
- It will download a file called “Zoominstallerfull.exe” to your computer.
- Click on the downloaded file to install.
- Tablet: Go to your App Store and install from there.
- PC Computer:
- Open.
- Test and configure your video and microphone settings, background and lighting, familiarize yourself with the interface, etc. now, so you’re ready for the meeting.
- If you are new to Zoom, you can print these instructions to have next to you.
STEP 2 – Joining a Meeting
The day of a program, you will receive an email with the Zoom Meeting Link.
Here is an Example of what the link will look like.

- Set up in a quiet area with an uncluttered background. I have even done it outside in the backyard.
- Check your battery life or plug in.
- Have a notebook ready for taking notes.
- Write down questions you’d like answered.
- Get something to drink.
- Tell people you are about to join a Zoom and to please not disturbed you and to keep the noise down. Feed the dogs.
- Join 5-10 minutes before the start of the meeting to allow for program updates, checking settings and getting yourself situated.
- Click on the Join Zoom Meeting link and follow the prompts.
- This will take you to the meeting access point – a square box in the middle of your screen
- Inside the blue box it will say – Zoom Meeting
- To launch into the meeting – click on OPEN LINK at bottom of square
- See yourself on screen- click on the blue box – Join With Video below your image
- The next screen – Click on blue box – Join With Computer Audio
- At top right of screen click on Enter Full Screen
- YOU ARE IN !!
Step 3 – During the Zoom Meeting
When you join a Zoom meeting hosted by another user, you are considered an Attendee.
Controls (may need to roll mouse over area to see):
On a PC, the controls appear at the bottom of your screen.
On a MAC, the controls appear at the top of the screen.
Menu Bar from left to right
- Mute / Unmute: Mute and unmute your microphone – click on this icon to unmute to talk, mute to silence your microphone.
- Start Video / Stop Video: Turns your camera on or off – you can turn off video if you do not want others to see you, however you will still be able to see the program.
- Participants: See who’s currently in the meeting. Click on icon and a list of participants will appear on the right side of the screen.
- Chat: Submit questions to the speaker. Click on chat icon to open Chat window at the right of the screen. Go to bottom where it says “type message.” Write your message. Hit the enter button on your computer to submit.
- Share Screen: You do not need this to participate in a Zoom meeting.
- Record: Attendees do not have access to this function
- Leave: Click to leave the meeting at any time (only the host can end a meeting).
VIEW: Gallery View or Speaker View – top right of your screen
- Gallery view – (aka Brady Bunch View) see all the participants
- Speaker view – see only the person who is speaking
